Dr. Newman will conclude with the very important topics of Hypoglycemia and Jaundice providing participants leading causes for these conditions and providing strategies that will incorporate how to treat while continuing to support breastfeeding. This program will help clarify and provide solutions dealing with rising concerns in infant feeding and milk transfer without undermining breastfeeding.

Featuring Mireya Gonzalez, B.A, CLS, this webinar will discuss that while bodyfeeding is the biological norm for feeding human infants, many parents continue to report that bodyfeeding wasn’t easy to establish or maintain. According to the 2018 Breastfeeding Report Card 87% of parents in the U.S initiated bodyfeeding but only 26% of infants were exclusively bodyfed by 6 months despite the World Health Organization and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation for an infant to be exclusively body fed for the first 6 months. The narrative for many parents is that bodyfeeding simply didn’t work out for them, but the reality is that parents are faced with significant barriers to initiating and maintaining bodyfeeding across hospital and community settings, and both hospital and community based settings can do more to support lactating parents in reaching personal and national bodyfeeding goals. This presentation will address evidence based strategies for parents and the healthcare team to effectively initiate bodyfeeding and promote practices that honor infant capabilities and increase bodyfeeding duration. This webinar is 1 hour in length.

This presentation will provide the historical context for understanding current struggles faced by Black communities in relation to breastfeeding and will offer strategies and resources to support the needs of growing families today.
