Lactation for a Healthier Planet

World Breastfeeding Week 2020

SUPPORT LACTATION FOR A HEALTHIER PLANET!

We’re proud to announce that BreastfeedLA is collaborating with sister organization, Chichihualli and community members of Los Angeles to participate in this year’s World Breastfeeding Week 2020 throughout the first week of August. To raise awareness about the links between breast/chestfeeding and planetary health we will use our social media platforms to inform communities about the impact of formula feeding on the environment and engage school children, students, youth, and families through activities that educate on the impact that breast/chestfeeding has on environmental health.

What’s innovative about this and why is it important?

Many conversations about the benefits of breast/chestfeeding have focused on the health outcomes of the lactating individual and the infant. BreastfeedLA and Chichihualli are raising awareness on the correlation between breast/chestfeeding and planetary health through an interactive math activity. This activity helps families understand how breast/chestfeeding has a positive impact on the environment because it uses few resources, produces minimal or zero waste, and uses fewer healthcare resources. .

 What we need from you

We’re recruiting families to participate in our breast/chestfeeding & planetary health advocacy campaign through social media & a math activity!

We need families to:

  1. Calculate how much water they’ve saved by exclusively breast/chestfeeding for as long as they have

  2. Share a breast/chestfeeding photo or a breast/chestfeeding selfie with your result, post it & tag us at @breastfeedla to get reposted or email it to mgonzalez@breastfeedla.org to have it posted directly on our social media platforms.

Thank you for your support and participation!
